Hydrogen blending in existing natural gas transmission pipelines: a review of hydrogen embrittlement, governing codes, and life prediction methods

چکیده
Abstract Existing natural gas pipelines provide an economic alternative for the transport of hydrogen (H 2 ) in envisioned economy. Hydrogen can dissolve steel and cause embrittlement (HE), compromising pipeline structural integrity. HE causes subcritical cracking, decreases ductility fracture toughness, increases fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR). This work analyzes testing standards gaseous used to quantify those effects. Design code ASME B31.12 applicable has more stringent requirements than B31.8 commonly constructing pipelines. Differences materials specified by codes are summarized. applies H at a concentration greater 10% molar. Experimental Study of Hydrogen Addition Impact on Emissions and Performance of a Natural Gas Fueled Engine
Hydrogen is seen as one of the important energy carriers of the future with potential to reduce local as well as global warming. The main by-product of the combustion of hydrogen in air is water vapor and trace quantities of oxides of nitrogen. An experiment was conducted to study the impact of hydrogen/natural gas blends on performance, thermodynamic efficiency and exhaust gas emissions in ...

Prevention of Hydrogen Embrittlement in Steels
The essential facts about the nature of the hydrogen embrittlement of steels have now been known for 140 years. It is diffusible hydrogen that is harmful to the toughness of iron. It follows, therefore, that the harmful influence of diffusible hydrogen can be mitigated by preventing its entry into steel or by rendering it immobile once it penetrates the material. This review deals with the meth...
متن کاملA Review of Manufacturing Process of Polyethylene Pipe and Connectors for Applying in High-Pressure Natural Gas Pipelines
In this article various pipes used for transporting of gas are introduced and pros and cons of each one are elucidated. The pipes are categorized in three different subgroups including metallic, polymeric and metallic-wire reinforced polymeric pipes. Metallic-wire reinforced polymeric pipes are nominated as the best option for usage in high pressure pipelines transporting natural gas. As a resu...
